Day 46 - 2,643 Miles To Date - Grand Junction, CO

Of course nothing on 4k goes as planned, so my van day was a little hectic but it definitely wasn't the worst day ever. We noticed we were low on gas from the previous day after one of the water stops, but had about 70 miles so weren't too worried. After the next water stop we had to climb a mountain, so naturally the gas was used up quicker. At the top of the mountain we had 30 miles to empty when our riders told us they saw a sign that there was no gas for 60 miles. Steph and I started to freak out a little, but long story short we drove 35 miles down the mountain just coasting without pressing the gas. A park ranger gave us a couple gallons, but we made it to a gas station then went back up the mountain to clean up the water stop. We didn't run out of gas! I did say if the vans were to ever run out, it probably would be me driving. Yesterday's ride was nice, my legs were refreshed and it was a short, downhill ride into Grand Junction, CO. All of our attitudes usually seem to be on the same page, and yesterday everyone was in a good mood just enjoying the day. At about 10 miles out from the town, we were met by a pink fire truck in honor of the fight against breast cancer. We were escorted as a whole team into town by the truck and our vans. It was already an awesome day, but our arrival and the rest of the evening were even more amazing! We were greeted by a bunch of people at the church cheering for us, along with the local news team. We took some pictures, talked about our ride on the news a little bit, and headed inside for lunch. Harshini and I met up with our host and got to shower, do laundry, and get some other things done like patch tubes. We went back to the church for dinner, which was a delicious mix of salad, wheel shaped pasta, and a ton of meatballs! Not to mention the fresh peach topped angel food cake and vanilla ice cream. While waiting for dinner we all helped make fleece blankets for cancer patients in the community. After dinner we talked about our trip to the community and they showed some of the blankets we made. Overall, the night was a lot of fun. Our host was incredible and it was so nice to have a comfortable bed to sleep in. Breakfast this morning was wonderful and we are all ready for our 110 mile day into Moab. (We might have to shuttle because of interstate being the only way there, but we're gonna start riding and play it by ear.) Rest day tomorrow! More importantly, skydiving tomorrow!
